Karen Meiselbach – June 16, 2015:
I’m a bit unbiased about this album and totally ok with that. It deserves all the praise anyone can heap on it. Ross took some very raw & personal struggles and turned them into a victory dance. This album courageously tells that story – I see the truth of Romans 8:28 personified in it. Ross keeps the emphasis on the one who kept him from going down through it all, though – a personal friend who happens to be his God. Ross conveys all this with incredible musical artistry and amazing lyrics. Every song has a different style ranging from ballad to rock & roll to “snarky” satire, to a touching love song. This variety showcases the breadth and depth of Ross’s talent, all used to God’s glory. I clap my hands and stomp my feet to “Opposite Day” and cry over “Where I Was Then.” “Treason & Blasphemy” is my new spiritual fight song, and “First” has become my anthem. I dare you to find just one favorite song! After you’ve listened to the whole album, go back and really listen for the very quiet but sweet harmonies of his wife’s voice in the background vocals. I imagine that is exactly how Staci accompanied Ross on this journey the last few years, and I would like to be that kind of wife. If “Love Makes Us” and that same love is a hammer to shame’s chains, then I think I hear the sound of metal being shattered in hearts all over the world. You really do NEED to buy this album. Well done, Ross, good & faithful servant.
All the best –
